how to start

Start Your Own Journey

Pick Your First Race

Choose something accessible, not intimidating. A race close to home or one that fits your current fitness level is the best place to begin. The goal is to build momentum, not pressure.

Stay Connected to Your Purpose

Your reason matters more than your pace. Whether it’s health, challenge, or personal growth, staying clear on why you started will carry you through the hard days.

Don’t Forget to Enjoy It

Not every race will be perfect — and that’s part of it. Take in the experience, the environment, and the people along the way. The journey matters just as much as the finish line.

Why 50×60 Exists

50×60 started with a simple but intimidating question: What if I committed to something big — not to win, but to experience?

I am actually running to get a medal in each state. That is my goal, pride, and proof that I completed the half marathons.  I have them hanging in my office.

Every state tells a different story — the terrain, the people, the preparation, the food, the fatigue, the finish. 50×60 exists to capture those stories honestly, one state at a time.

Why 50×60 Is Different

A Real Human Journey

Not a brand. Not a race organizer. One person chasing a lifetime goal.

State-by-State Storytelling

Every state documented with race, travel, food, and lessons — not just results.

Transparent Preparation

Training plans, mistakes, and adjustments shared honestly.

Age-Defying Mindset

I did give myself a deadline of 60 years to complete.

THE 50×60 FRAMEWORK

What You’ll Find in Every State

Each state page documents the complete half marathon experience:

The race and its conditions

How I trained for that specific state

How I traveled and where I stayed

Local food, sights, and recovery

Race-day organization and atmosphere

Personal reflections — how I felt, what I wore, and how it went

FROM RICK

A Note From Me

I’m not chasing perfection — I’m chasing consistency. Every race brings something different. Some are great, some are difficult, and some teach lessons I never expected to learn. Each experience adds another layer to the journey.

50×60 is my way of staying accountable, staying curious, and reminding myself that meaningful goals don’t come with an expiration date. Thanks for being part of the journey.
