intro to the state

Where this chapter of the journey unfolds

Alabama welcomed me with warmth — not just in temperature, but in people. Birmingham feels rooted in history yet quietly forward-moving. The pace here is slower than big race cities, which made it easier to settle in and focus on the experience rather than the noise around it.

This state reminded me that not every race has to feel monumental to be meaningful.

What I signed up for and what made it unique

The Alabama marathon I chose was straightforward and low-key. No massive crowds or overwhelming logistics — just a well-marked course, steady volunteers, and runners focused on the work ahead. It felt like the kind of race where preparation matters more than hype.

How I trained

How I prepared for this course and conditions

For Alabama, preparation was about restraint. I focused on building endurance in warmer conditions, paying close attention to hydration, and training my mind to stay patient early. The goal wasn’t speed — it was consistency and control from start to finish.

🎯 Increased leg strength to handle downhill impact

🎯 Long runs with negative elevation

🎯 Extra hydration planning

🎯 Breathing control and pacing discipline

How I Am Getting There

Travel, logistics, and race-week arrival

Travel into Alabama was simple and efficient. I arrived early enough to settle in, adjust to the climate, and keep my routine intact. Minimizing stress before race day was just as important as the miles logged in training.

  • Getting there: Flight + short drive

  • Timing: Arrive 48h early (altitude)

  • Groceries: Simple carbs + familiar snacks

  • Key choice: No late-night exploring

where i stay

Where I rested and reset

I stayed somewhere quiet and practical — close enough to the race without feeling rushed. Sleep, hydration, and light movement were the priorities. This was a week about conserving energy, not exploring aggressively.
